The Dogs

She runs full blast towards me

As I drive up the lane.

Tongue dangling-

Ears flopping-

Right before our paths meet she whips around and runs back up the lane

Leading the way.

As I open the door she lunges forward

Leaping through the air

Aiming to land in my lap

But then she

-Stops-

-midair-

-a whiff-

“Waiiiiiit a minute.”

I can hear her say

As she slowly traces the contour of my jeans with her nose

“Where have you been?

YOU CHEATED!”

She snots

Giving me the side eye.

Seriously we go through the same thing every day as I return home from work.

She smells them.

Buddy and Zeus,

Luna and Gema

I gush over at the register

Feed treats

Snuggle
