Metamora: Whitewater Canal State Historic Site
Share
Nestled in the rolling hills
Of southeast Indiana
A quaint, nostalgic
Storybook town
.
A jump back in time
Where canals and railroads
Were the new way to travel
Horses and wagons brought grain to town
A mill operated by water
Water rushing over water
Flowing right down between
Lines of shops and houses
Frozen in time
.
Now selling donuts and coffee
Arts and crafts
Antiques and thrift
Gems, ice cream and fudge
This little town explodes twice a year
Once for a weekend
Once for a month of weekends
But open every weekend
Kids feeding ducks
Shop owners and citizens
Visitors all together
.
Our favorite way to travel here
Is by train from a neighboring town
The slow, hot, rocking pace
Simplifies everything down
Carving out time to entertain ourselves
It builds up the sense of adventure
Reminding us of the good we own
The special moment we can create
With a little bit of time
And appreciation
For what is around
.
Our favorite spot has always been
Down at the very end
Under the water’s bridge
Where extra flows from either end
This time creating icicles, waterfalls, pools and magic once again
.
